Quebrada Ulta 6 Days

   
Day 1: Huaraz – Cashapampa – Llamacorral camp to 3000meters
after the breakfast in the hotel we will aboard in our private bus to go along the Callejón de Huaylas in the north side of Huaraz. passing different traditional Andean towns, first arriving and making the first stop in Carhuaz (2650m), here we will find the traditional made at home ice-crams from local fruits, and authentic and ecological handcrafts shown in el abuelo handcrafts shop, el abuelo is a shop located in the main square, where we will enjoy Carhuaz’ native products, then we will continue with our travel passing the Yungay, this city was buried by an avalanche that fell down from Huascaran mountain in 1970, the new Yungay (2500m), after this city, we will get the Caraz city (2400m)where we will buy some things, then we will continue our travel to get the last Cashapampa District arriving around 10am , where we will meet our donkey and donkey drivers to transport our hiking equipments, from here we will start hiking up after walking 2hours half we will have lunch, then we will continue hiking up, after hiking up for 5 or 6 hours we will get the first camp the named Llamacorral, arriving around 4pm. Overnight camping at (3800m).

Day 2: Llamacorral – Taullipampa camp to 4100meters
After the breakfast in the morning we will start hiking up at 9am.after hiking up 2 hours we will get the Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha lake, after visit these lakes we will continue hiking up to get the way Alpamayo and Taullipampa, where we will have lunch, then we will climb up for about 1 hour to get the Base Camp Alpamayo, where we will enjoy the splendid views of Alpamayo and Quitaraju Mountains in the south side Artesonraju, Paron and Aguja mountains. After enjoy this views we will go down and hiking up for about 1 hour half to get the second camp the named Taullipampa, arriving around 3 or 4pm. Overnight camping at(4200m).

Day 3: Taullipampa – Cachinapampa camp to 2800meters
After the breakfast in the morning we will start hiking up at 8am. After hiking up 4 hours we will get the Punta Union pass (4750m) where we will have lunch enjoying the splendid views of the mountains, landscapes, matching its natural mountain colors in the blue sky, the white mountains, Dark green hills, turquoise lakes, feeling the Andean fresh air at this altitude, after this we will go down for about 3 hours half aprox to get the last camp the named Cachinapampa, Overnight camping at (3800m).

Day 4: Cachinapampa – Colcabamba – Avalancha camp to 4500meters
After the breakfast in the morning we will start going down for about 2 hours half to get the small village of Colcabamba, here we will have a rest for snacks, then continue to the next village of Yerbabuena, here we will have lunch in adequate place, after lunch and rest we will continue for about two hours closer to the glacier, here we will have spectacular views of avalanches falling down making noise from the Contrahierbas mountains, here we will prepare our camping place, about 4500masl, dinner and overnight, in the place called avalanche due to the avalanches falling down.

Day 5: Avalancha – Yanayacu Pass – Ulta camp
After our usual break fast in the morning we will pack our camping equipment and start going up to the Yanayacu pass 4850 masl, from this pass we will have nice views of the mountains such as; Chopicalqui, Contrahierbas, Ulta and Chequiaraju, then continue going down the Ulta valley and then closer to the car trail we will set up our camping place, dinner and overnight around 4100 masl

Day 6: Ulta – Huaraz
After the breakfast we will continue going down to the Ulta small valley, we have to go down for about one hour and half to get the first small district of Shilla where we can find some small shops to provide us soda drinks, then continue down to Carhuaz, here we will stop for toilet of some necessity, then continue direct to Huaraz, overnight hotel Huaraz.

  • Backpack,

  • Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Huaraz for a few dollars)
  • Strong, comfortable footwear
  • One complete change of clothing (you can afford to carry more changes of clothing if you hire a personal porters, see options below)
  • Sweater and jacket (something warm)
  • Water bottle, ideally non disposable canteen (boiled drinking water will be provided)
  • Torch / Flashlight and batteries
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun
  • Sun block (sun protection cream)
  • Insect repellent, absolutely the most important item for this hike is bug spray. Anything with a lot of DEET with do the job, anything less is simply not sufficient. Bug spray MUST be bought in Huaraz, as it cannot be found even in neighboring towns.
  • Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
  • Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits, energy bars etc,
  • Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries, cash in soles and US$
  • Swimsuit (if you plan on visiting the hot springs at Hunacarhuaz after the trek)
  • Optional: walking Poles /sticks rubber covers necessary (can be hired from our office for US$06 each one for the 4 day trek)
  • You also need to bring a copy of  your passport on the trail.

(1) Personal horse for riding while on the trek with and extra cost, you can have a personal horse to ride any time you may need.
(2) Vegetarian Meals. We can provide vegetarian meals or cater for special diets with no extra cost. Just let us know at time of reservation prior to trek departure.
(3) Sleeping bag hire. If you haven't got a sleeping bag or you don't want the hassle of bringing one all to Peru with you then we have sleeping bags in our office for rent. The price is US$10 per person per day.

Reservation details: All trek reservations must be made reservation in advance (however 30 days in advance is recommended especially during the months of April, May, June, July and August)

Payment details: We will require a non-refundable trek deposit of 50% per person payable at the time of Reservation and we will confirm you by e-mail or phone confirming your trek booking. The deposit could be paid by Our VISA Payment On-Line, Western Union or money transfer to our Peruvian Bank account and these are our fastest most secure form of payments in Peru. Further details of how to send the deposit are included with our trek booking confirmation email. The remaining balance is to be paid in Huaraz one day prior to your trek departure date. Payment can be made in cash US$, local currency (Peruvian Soles),
For a trek deposit Payment we use BANCO DE CREDITO DEL PERU, please if you are ready to make reservation inform as son as possible to send you our bank account number

>> Other information <<

  • Luggage storage. When you go on the trek it is best to leave any luggage that you are not going to need behind in Huaraz. Nearly all the hotels in Huaraz provide secure luggage deposit. Put any valuables in their safe. Very rarely do hotels charge for this service especially if you are returning to the same hotel after the trek. If there are any problems with your hotel we can arrange to store your luggage at our office.
  • Time of arrival in Huaraz you will return to your hotel in Huaraz for approximately 4:30pm on the last day of the trek
