Huanucoviejo - Huayhuash 11 Days

   
1 Day: Huaraz - Llamac

The trail head. After the breakfast we will aboard our private bus, and leave to south side Huaraz passing for different small and typical towns of Recuay 3400, Ticapampa 3470, Catac 3640 and the small village Pachacoto 3700, from here we’ll leave the high way and continue in the east side surrounded by a lot of straw and we will start enjoying the beautiful landscape that matches the blue sky and the darkled green hills and far from here the snow peaked white mountains will match the landscape, the first turistic place that we will appreciate will be the Patococha lake, after it we’ll get in to the national park and we’ll find the gasified water from Pumapampa, a few kilometer from here we’ll make stop in a small colored lake called Pumapashimin that Changes its colors caused by solar radiation. At the same time we’ll be next to the big Bromeliads called Puyas Raymondi, here we will have lunch, and after the lunch we’ll come back to Pachacoto to continue to Chiquian 3400. Once we have gotten Conococha we will take the east high way a few kilometers, then from Mojon we start going down zigzag trail until Chiquian. Arriving aprox at 1 pm. For Lunch, then we have to go down until Timpoc 2800 masl aprox, From here we will start again going-up along the Llamac river until the peasant town Llamac which lies at 3300 masl. Here will be our first camping in the football field of Llamac. All meals provided for our mountain personals

2 Day: Llamac - Jahuacocha

after th brekfast in Llamac, we will start hiking up zig-zag path to Pampallamac pass wich is 4300masl, from here we will have the first nice and spectacular views form the Huayhuash Mountains, such as Yerupaja, Jirishanca, Rondoy and others, if there is no wind here we will have lunch, then continue along the Jahuacocha valley, until the lake Jahuacocha, we will set our campng next to the lake and local people will come to us to vist saying hello, overnight in Jahuacocha at1066

3 Day: Jahuacocha - Rondoy Pass - Cuartelhuain

early breakfast in Jahuacocha, and start hiking up by the shore of the Jahuacocha lake as we aproach the mountain Rondoy, we will satrt hiking up, and we will enjoy the Solterococha's charming, nice because its color, and avalanches falling down with spectacular views, and many snow peaked mountains, then after to climb for about 3 hours aprox we will get the Rondoy pass 4750masl, where condors fliying, we will have lunch here and continue going down along the Rondoy small valley until Matacancha, then continue up to Cuartelhuain and camp around 4200 masl.

4 Day: Cuartelhuain - Mitucocha

In the morning after the breakfast we’ll get ready our things and at 8 am we’ll start our trek, this time it’s going to be a bit difficult because the climbing to the pass will take us about 2 or 3 hours. From the pass we’ll go down then we’ll go-up aprox 30 minutes, we’ll have lunch after the small climb, We’ll take the alternative trail to get early the camping place and not for walking the same route the next day, in this route the passengers will appreciate the Andean rabbits called Vizcachas. Followed to catch by local citizens by its tasty meat, so once we have arrived to our camping place early we’ll have time to go fishing around the lake while our cook prepares the dinner. We will camp at 4200 masl.

5 Day. Mitucocha - Carhuacocha

as always after our breakfast and packing our things, we’ll start our trekking at 8 am today it is going to be easy. After 3 hours walking we’ll reach the pass where we’ll have lunch, We’ll walk always enjoying the white peaked mountains such as Yerupaja, Jirishanca, and Siula, we’ll get our camp place aprox at 3 or 4 pm. We’ll be surprised by a beautiful lake, keeping the mountain’s silhouettes green colored, so we will have prepared our camp place in the special place facing to the lake. we will have camped at 4138 masl.

6 Day. Carhuacocha - Siula - Queropalca

this day we’ll have breakfast as always then we will have many alternatives to do in this beautiful place, maybe go fishing, or visit Siula lake, or just walk around the lake or make their clothes washed, so according the passengers likes will be full filled our program, so for this day the passengers will coordinate with the guide and the mountain personals in the day before, then in the early afternoon walk down to Queropalca for about 3 hours arriving around 4pm to the basic lodging house destinated for the turists, here we will have chance to some basic shops to supply our primary necesities, overnight at Queropalca at 3850 aprox.

7 Day: Queropalca - Santa Rosa

after the breakfast in the morning we will start hiking down by a wonderful valley of Santa Rosa, along the way we will apreciate typical lyfestile of the andea comunity continue walking down until to reach the small village called santa Rosa hiking for abour 3 hourswe will have lunch in a place with nice scenery arriving to Santa Rosa we will find basic shops where we can buy some soda drinks and other groeceries, camp next to the village at 3750 masl

8 Day: Santa Rosa - Baños del Inka

After the breakfast in the Morning we will continue going down to Baños District, after hiking for about 3 hours we will reach Baños disctrict a small village typical andean town here we will visit its nice churh and abseve the traditional andean lifesyle here we will find Telephones, and Internet, and make some shoping, then continue for about 20 minutes and then we will Vist the INKA THERMAL BATH, and enjoy the hot springs all afternoon, here we will camp in the huge camping field, we will enjoy the quite friendly place camping at 3400masl aprox

9 Day: Baños del Inka - Altos Rondos

after the nice breakfast in the place calles INKA'S THERMAL BATH, we will satrt clearly satone INKA TRAIL, hiking up moderated path passing by several small villages and sheep herds, after to walk for about 3 hours we will stop for the lunch then continue hiking having spectacular views of the hills and landscapes to alto Rondos, arriving to a camp place for about 4pm camp at 4200 Alto Rondos net to the INKA TRAIL TO HUANUCOPAMPA

10 Day: Altos Rondos - Hunucoviejo

After the traditional andean breakfast we will enjoy the sun rise a magnificient and spectacular scenery in the highlands area, then continue along the INKA TRAIL, after hiking about 3 hours we will stop for the lunch in the middle of the INKA TRAIL, then continue hiking along the stone paved original INKA TRAIL who comes form Cusco to Huanucoviejo, then after lunch we will walk for around 3 hours and we will arrive to the Huge INKA RUINS of HUANUCOVIEJO, this ruins were ahuge complex and belonged to the INKA'S EMPIRE called TAHUANTINSUYO one of the INKA'S region after CUSCo that was the Capital of INKA'S empire... camping next to the HUNUCOVIEJO RUINS around 3700 masl.

11 Day: Hunucoviejo - La Union - Huallanca - Huaraz

after the breakfast in the camping in Huanucoviejo, we will visit all morning all the archaeological complex of HUNUCOVIEJO, there are so much to visit, our guide will take us a showing part by part, such as the 5 sun porchs, the Inka's Bath, The Military rooms, the principal Inka's palaca called Ushnu, Acllawasi (preaty women's room), the Colcas, and other principal places. this visit we will finish around mid day, then we will have lunch in our camping site next or in the entrance of the ruins, then after the lunch we will pack our things and teke our private Bus and drive to Huaraz, 15 minutes driving down we will arrive to La Union district we will make a stop to visit this town, chance to make photographs and other things, then continue driving for about one hour to another district called Huallanca, if necedsary to but something we will satp in thsi district, from this district to Huaraz driving will take us for about 4 hours in the paved highway, total driving form Huanucoviejo to Huaraz about 5 hours, arriving to Huaraz around 7pm and transfer directo to the Hotel.

  • Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Huaraz for a few dollars)
  • Strong, comfortable footwear
  • One complete change of clothing (you can afford to carry more changes of clothing if you hire a personal porters, see options below)
  • Sweater and jacket (something warm)
  • Water bottle, ideally non disposable canteen (boiled drinking water will be provided)
  • Torch / Flashlight and batteries
  • Hat or cap to protect you from the sun
  • Sun block (sun protection cream)
  • Insect repellent, absolutely the most important item for this hike is bug spray. Anything with a lot of DEET with do the job, anything less is simply not sufficient. Bug spray MUST be bought in Huaraz, as it cannot be found even in neighboring towns.
  • Toiletries, towel and toilet paper
  • Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits, energy bars etc,
  • Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries, cash in soles and US$
  • Swimsuit (if you plan on visiting the hot springs at Hunacarhuaz after the trek)
  • Optional: walking Poles /sticks rubber covers necessary (can be hired from our office for US$06 each one for the 4 day trek)

(1) Personal horse for riding while on the trek with and extra cost, you can have a personal horse to ride any time you may need.
(2) Vegetarian Meals. We can provide vegetarian meals or cater for special diets with no extra cost. Just let us know at time of reservation prior to trek departure.
(3) Sleeping bag hire. If you haven't got a sleeping bag or you don't want the hassle of bringing one all to Peru with you then we have sleeping bags in our office for rent. The price is US$10 per person per day.

Reservation details: All trek reservations must be made reservation in advance (however 30 days in advance is recommended especially during the months of April, May, June, July and August)

Payment details: We will require a non-refundable trek deposit of 50% per person payable at the time of Reservation and we will confirm you by e-mail or phone confirming your trek booking. The deposit could be paid by Our VISA Payment On-Line, Western Union or money transfer to our Peruvian Bank account and these are our fastest most secure form of payments in Peru. Further details of how to send the deposit are included with our trek booking confirmation email. The remaining balance is to be paid in Huaraz one day prior to your trek departure date. Payment can be made in cash US$, local currency (Peruvian Soles),

  • Luggage storage. When you go on the trek it is best to leave any luggage that you are not going to need behind in Huaraz. Nearly all the hotels in Huaraz provide secure luggage deposit. Put any valuables in their safe. Very rarely do hotels charge for this service especially if you are returning to the same hotel after the trek. If there are any problems with your hotel we can arrange to store your luggage at our office.
  • Time of arrival in Huaraz you will return to your hotel in Huaraz for approximately 4:30pm on the last day of the trek
