Chopicalqui Climbing

   
1 Day. Huaraz – Llanganuco – Quebrada Ancush – Base Camp

After the breakfast in the Hotel we will aboard the Bus to go along the Callejón de Huaylas in the north side of Huaraz. Passing different traditional Andean towns, first arriving and making the first stop in Carhuas (2650m), her we will find the traditional made at home Ice-Crams from local fruits, and authentic and ecological Handcrafts Shown in EL ABUELO handcrafts shop, El ABUELO is a shop located in the main square, where we will enjoy Carhuas’ native products, then we will continue with our travel to the next stop in the ancient town of Yungay, this city was buried by an Avalanche that fell down from Huascaran Mountain in 1972, the New Yungay (2500m), from here we have to start going up to the Llanganuco Valley, almost in the base of Huascaran Mountain in its north side, for the entrance to the Llanganuco Valley we will register in the National Parks Control, after we will visit the two lakes of Llanganuco, where we will have Lunch, then in the early afternoon we will continue going up to the Ancush Valley between Huascaran and Chopicalqui, then after short walk rocky trail we will arrive to the Base Camp and overnight at 4200 masl camping

2 Day. Base Camp – Moraine Camp

After walking for about 4 hours, the climbers will get the Moraine camp and overnight at 4612masl camping

3 Day. Moraine Camp – Camp 1

Today the climbers will walk to the Camp 1 for about 3 hour and half, then check the material in the afternnon, and overnight at 5300 masl camping

4 Day. Camp 1 – Summit – Moraine Camp

Today as for other Mountains climbers will leave at 3 am in the morning after breakfast, climbing for about 3 hours will get the summit 6354 masl, then after enjoy the views for few minutes will come back to the moraine camp, where the cook will be waiting with highland dish, and overnight at 4612 masl camping

5 Day. Moraine Camp - Base Camp – Huaraz

After the last Andean breakfast we will walk dawn hill to the trail head, where the bus will be waiting, and climbers will be transferred to Huaraz, making the last stop for lunch in the selected nice spot in the way, overnight at Hotel Huaraz

  • Backpack,
  • Sleeping bag
  • Rain jacket or poncho (plastic ponchos can be purchased in Huaraz for a few dollars)
  • Water bottle, ideally non disposable canteen (boiled drinking water will be provided)
  • Torch / Flashlight and batteries
  • Sun block (sun protection cream)
  • Insect repellent, absolutely the most important item for this hike is bug spray. Anything with a lot of DEET with do the job, anything less is simply not sufficient. Bug spray MUST be bought in Huaraz, as it cannot be found even in neighboring towns.
  • Selection of small snacks, chocolate, dried fruit, biscuits, energy bars etc,
  • Camera, plenty of film and spare batteries, cash in soles and US$
  • Swimsuit (if you plan on visiting the hot springs at Chancos after the Climbing days)
  • You also need to bring a copy of your passport on the trail.

Reservation details: All trek or climbing reservations must be made reservation in advance (however 30 days in advance is recommended especially during the months of April, May, June, July and August)

Payment details: We will require a non-refundable Climbing deposit of 50% per person payable at the time of Reservation and we will confirm you by e-mail or phone confirming your trek booking. The deposit could be paid by Our VISA Payment On-Line, Western Union or money transfer to our Peruvian Bank account and these are our fastest most secure form of payments in Peru. Further details of how to send the deposit are included with our trek booking confirmation email. The remaining balance is to be paid in Huaraz one day prior to your trek departure date. Payment can be made in cash US$, local currency (Peruvian Soles),
For a trek deposit Payment we use BANCO DE CREDITO DEL PERU, please if you are ready to make reservation inform as son as possible to send you our bank account number

Luggage storage. When you go on the trek it is best to leave any luggage that you are not going to need behind in Huaraz. Nearly all the hotels in Huaraz provide secure luggage deposit. Put any valuables in their safe. Very rarely do hotels charge for this service especially if you are returning to the same hotel after the trek. If there are any problems with your hotel we can arrange to store your luggage at our office.
Time of arrival in Huaraz you will return to your hotel in Huaraz for approximately 4:30pm on the last day of the trek
